Herbert played college football at Oregon University from 2016-2019. He was the first true freshman QB to start at Oregon since Chris Miller in 1983 when he took over the starting spot for Oregon in week 5 of the 2016 season. He compiled 1,936 passing yards with 19 touchdowns and 4 interceptions for the season. This was the worst season for Oregon in 25 years due to going 4-8 and failing to qualify for a bowl game for the first time in over a decade. In 2017, Herbert received a new head coach in Willie Taggart. Herbert would go 6-2 as a starter in 2017 with 1,983 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. He would lead the Ducks into the 2017 Las Vegas Bowl against Boise State, Taggart would leave the team a week prior to this game to take the head coaching position at Florida State. Oregon would go on to lose to Boise State. In 2018, Herbert would lead the Duck to a 9-4 record and a win in the Redbox Bowl, while compiling 3,151 passing yards with 29 passing touchdowns, 2 rushing touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. He would return for his senior season in 2019 despite being touted as a high first-round draft pick. He would go on to lead Oregon to a 12-2 record with a 2019 Rose Bowl win and Offensive MVP award for the game. He had his best statistical season for Oregon that year with 3,471 passing yards, 32 passing touchdowns to 5 interceptions, and 4 rushing touchdowns. He was selected as the 2019 Academic Heisman. He would be drafted with the 6th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Chargers. He would go on to win the 2020 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award while leading the Chargers to a 6-9 record. He threw for 4,336 yards with 31 touchdowns to 10 interceptions and 5 rushing touchdowns. He retained his starting role in 2021 with a 9-8 record, 5,014 passing yards with 38 passing touchdowns and 15 interceptions, and 3 rushing touchdowns. In his two years in the league, he has set some new records for rookies and second-year players. INVEST NOW before his cards skyrocket in value like Joe Burrow’s rookie cards.
