Alvarez was signed as an international free agent in June of 2016 by the LA Dodgers, he was traded to the Houston in 2016.  He made his MLB debut in 2019 and hit four homeruns in his first five career games.  The Astros would lose the 2019 World Series to the Washington Nationals.  Alvarez would finish 2019 as the AL Rookie of the Year with .313/.412/.655 with 27 home runs and 75 RBIs in 313 at bats.  He also broke “Shoeless” Joe Jackson’s rookie record of 1.058 OPS with an astounding 1.067 OPS.  He would only play 2 games in 2020.  He would help lead the Astros to the 2021 World Series, winning the ALCS MVP award along the way.  He would have dismal stats in the World Series as the Astros lost to the Atlanta Braves.  He was selected to his first All-Star game as a reserve DH in 2022.  If he can stay healthy he should be able to prove the doubters wrong about his ability.  Only time will tell if he can lead the Astros to a World Series title.
