Mahomes is the son of former MLB player Pat Mahomes. Patrick played college football at Texas Tech from 2014-2016. He would pass for 11,252 yards with 93 touchdowns and 29 interceptions over his three seasons in Lubbock. He set two NCAA records while at Texas Tech. Single game total offense in 2016 with 819 total yards and total passing yards in 2016 with 734 yards which is tied with Washington State’s Conner Halliday, who set the record in 2014. Mahomes would win the 2016 Sammy Baugh Trophy for being the nation’s top college passer, becoming the 4th Red Raider to win the award. He would be selected with the 10th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. He would be the backup to Alex Smith until the regular season finale, when they chose to rest Smith in preparation for the playoffs. In 2018 Mahomes became the starting quarterback after the Chiefs sent Smith to the Redskins for Kendall Fuller and a third-round pick. He would tear the league up on the way to winning the NFL MVP award for the 2018 season, the first person in Chief’s history to do so. The Chiefs would lose the AFC title game to the Patriots. Mahomes would get the last laugh the following season by taking the Chiefs to the Super Bowl and winning it all, including Super Bowl MVP. He would be instrumental in taking the Chiefs to a second straight Super Bowl in 2020, losing to Brady and the Buccaneers. He would make a fourth straight AFC Title game in 2021, losing to Joe “Brrrr” Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals. In Mahomes short career he has set NFL records enroute to his NFL MVP season in 2018. He is a minority shareholder in the Kansas City Royals. He has already amassed 18,991 regular season passing yards with 151 touchdowns to 37 interceptions and 3,381 postseason passing yards with 28 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. He should easily get a few more Super Bowl wins and League MVP awards if he can stay consistent with his play and healthy.
