Gale Sayers was selected by the Chicago Bears with the 4th overall pick in the 1965 NFL draft and with the 5th overall pick in the 1965 AFL draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. He would win the 1965 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year with 22 touchdowns (14 rushing, 6 receiving, 1 each on punt and kickoff returns) and 2,272 all-purpose yards (1,371 from scrimmage). He would split time with Brian Piccolo in 1967 after winning the rushing title in 1966. He would get injured in 1968 and win the NFL Comeback player of the Year in 1969. He would retire in 1971. He would be inducted into both the College Football and Pro Football Hall of Fame. He was helped by Brian Piccolo when he was recovering from his knee injury and was by Brian’s side when he died from cancer in 1970. This would look great in any collection.
