1957 Topps Warren Spahn graded Excellent (5) by SGC. Corners and edges are worn, centering is off, and the front and back is what you would expect with a “5” by SGC. Spahn was one of the best live ball era pitchers. He spent all but one year with the Braves. He began in 1942 with the Boston Braves and chose to serve in the Army after the season was over. He was a combat engineer for 3 years earning a Purple Heart for the Battle of the Bulge and Ludendorff Bridge and a Battlefield Commission. He would return to baseball in 1946 with decent pitching statistics. However, in 1947 Spahn began to dominate opposing batters posting a 21-10 win-loss record. He would go on to compile a 363-245 win-loss record over 22 years in the league. He won the World Series in 1957, was a 17-time All-Star, 1957 Cy Young Award Winner. Spahn also Pitched 2 no hitters during his career. Was one half of the “Pray for Rain” Games with Johnny Sain in 1948 where the pitchers went a combined 8-0 over 12 days. Spahn was inducted into Cooperstown in 1973. This card would be perfect for any vintage baseball or Braves fan and is a MUST have for any collector of HOF baseball players and any serious baseball collector. Spahn is widely considered to be one of the top 50 greatest pitchers of all-time.
