1989 Topps Traded #83T Barry Sanders Autographed rookie card. The autograph was certified and graded a 10 by Beckett Grading Services. Barry played college football for Oklahoma State from 1986-1988. He would wear number 21 and be the backup to Thurman Thomas through the 1987 season. In 1988, Sanders would set NCAA single season rushing records for touchdowns with 37; total touchdowns with 39 (tied by Montee Ball in 2011); rushing yards with 2,628; total all-purpose yards with 3,248 (broken by Christian McCaffrey in 2015); total points with 234 (broken by Montee Ball in 2011). He set other records that he still holds. He led OSU to a 1988 Holiday Bowl win over Wyoming. He would be selected as the 1988 Heisman award winner along with the Maxwell award and the Walter Camp award. He was also a unanimous All-American selection. He would be drafted with the 3rd overall pick in the 1989 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. He would wear number 20 throughout his entire career in the NFL. He would win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, be selected to the Pro Bowl, first team All-Pro and PFWA All-Rookie team. He would also break the team’s rookie and season rushing records that were held by Billy Sims at the time with 1,470 rushing yards. Barry would be one of the most elusive running backs in the NFL throughout his career. He would only have one playoff win with the Lions in his career. He would be considered one of the best running backs in NFL history without a Super Bowl victory.
